Isaiah Wright was supposed to join his brother at the University of Indiana after leaving EMCC but in 2017 he was arrested and charged with homicide. He currently is playing in their farm system as a relief pitcher and has appeared in 30 games in his career. He would pursue a baseball career while attending East Mississippi and he played well enough that he would ultimately be selected by the San Diego Padres in the 14th round of the 2017 MLB Draft.
Vijay Miller would also leave Scuba but would chase a new career, one in a different sport entirely. He looks to compete for a roster spot under new head coach Urban Meyer He would be cut twice by the Rams and make stops in Las Vegas and now currently Jacksonville. In round seven the Los Angeles Rams would call his name and he would then make jumps around on teams active and practice squad rosters. All this led him back to Texas Tech where he would lead the team in tackles and become a team captain before entering the 2017 NFL Draft. You see him doing the school work and being reborn spiritually to the point we even see him baptized on the show. He now works off the field as a quarterbacks coach at Houston-based Five Star General Academy where he looks to groom the next generation while also having a story to tell.ĭakota Allen was kicked off the Texas Tech campus and landed in Scuba but while in Scuba he found a new beginning, literally. He would transfer to FAU to be coached under Lane Kiffin but would never see his name higher than third-string while in Boca Raton.Īfter FAU, Johnson would transfer to FCS Texas Southern but that is where his on-field career would end. Johnson, who was originally tabbed as Jameis Winston’s replacement, came to Scuba with high expectations but he never played up to them and battled injury. He continues to produce division one players out of Scuba and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. His tactics may be absolutely off the wall but the results speak for themselves. Since that tumultuous ending to the season prior Buddy Stephens has gone a combined 40-6 record as a head coach including three conference titles and two national championships. Let us now say goodbye to Scuba, Mississippi as we wrap up the cast and season two of Last Chance U.īuddy Stephens may have had controversy surrounding him after season one but what cures all things? Winning. Of course, we have one last tragic story involving an East Mississippi running back. We also meet a former Texas Tech linebacker who is super easy to root for and we see him make the biggest growth on the field and off of any player in the show's history I would argue. On the field, we do get a new batch of players who come in that does include another troubled Florida State quarterback transfer who we get to meet and understand. During the season we see Stephens tone down his language until during one of the games mid-season he decides to throw all restraint out the window and get back to his old ways. Season two would start with the film crew talking to people in the town of Scuba asking for their thoughts on Coach Stephens and they were far from positive. Current coach of the Statesmen Todd Cooley has gone 8-12 in his last two seasons and his contract expires in 2021.The second season of Last Chance U left off right after the tumultuous end of season one that involved the major brawl between teams and coach Buddy Stephens calling his players “thugs”.
If he does move to the NCAA ranks, it will probably to alma mater, DII Delta State. However, he may move to another JUCO program as EMCC continues to cut its budget. Could Buddy recruit that well in DI where everyone has just as many resources (if not more) than you? I doubt it.īuddy is probably more than happy as a king in NJCAA. And even this is partially due to EMCC’s gigantic recruiting budget compared to many of its rivals. And Campbell was a former FBS assistant, so he has administrative connections that Buddy doesn’t have (Stephens has coached just one year in the NCAA- as a GA at Delta State).īuddy’s biggest strength is his ability to recruit not just big recruits, but big college transfers. He had to win the DII national championship to get a look at a DI program (and he still flunked out at South Alabama). Steve Campbell won a NJCAA title at Gulf Coast and was only offered a DII job. There’s a ton more management, and a whole lot more factors to deal with (more staff to handle, more politics, more players, NCAA scrutiny). Understand that there is a gigantic difference between JUCO coaching and NCAA coaching.
